Temporary Fuel Use PermitWhat is the Purpose of this Permit?A Department of Licensing permit to allow operation of a diesel or propane commercial vehicle exceeding 26,000 lbs. coming into Washington state for three consecutive days. The Department of Transportation issues this permit on behalf of The Department of Licensing.What Activities Require this Permit?If you don't pay fuel tax under the International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA) and need to travel in Washington and are driving a diesel or propane powered commercial vehicle with; 2 axles and a gross vehicle weight (GVW) over 26,000 lbs., 3 or more axles regardless of weight, or a combination of vehicles with a combined GVW over 26,000, you must purchase a Special Fuel Permit to allow operation of your vehicle in Washington.Where Can I Get the Application for this Permit?The application which is called 'DOT Form 560-025' is online and can be accessed at https://wsdot.wa.gov/commercial-vehicle/permits/home.Do I Need to Include Anything with my Application?No - Only the permit application and permit fee is required to issue the permit (only 3 permits can be issued in a thirty day period)Is the Decision on my Permit Dependent on Anything Besides the Information in my Application?No - The application and permit fee is all that is required in order to issue the permitHow Long Will it Take to Review my Application?This permit is issued as requested. Each regulatory agency developed a plan to improve permit clarity, predictability, and timeliness. Each agency considers the customers experience to ensure permit assistance is simple to use, easy to access, and designed in a customer-friendly manner. Agencies report progress to the Governor’s Office for Regulatory Innovation and Assistance (ORIA). ORIA prepares and distributes reports, with participation from the State Auditor’s Office and Results Washington.
