Electrical Class B PermitWhat is the Purpose of this Permit?Instead of a regular electrical work permit, Washington electrical contractors may purchase Class B work permit labels to complete work that requires minimal electrical circuit modifications and has limited exposure hazards. Class B work is inspected on a random basis by L&I inspectors.What Activities Require this Permit?For Class B eligible work- see WAC 296-46B-908(10). This is a less expensive alternative permit, but may only be used by licensed electrical contractors for work that is specifically allowed as Class B eligible.How Much Will this Permit Cost?Each label is about one-fifth the cost of a regular permit. One book of twenty labels is $258.70.Where Can I Get the Application for this Permit?The application is online and can be accessed at https://lni.wa.gov/licensing-permits/electrical/electrical-permits-fees-and-inspections/purchase-permits-request-inspections#class-b-electrical-permits.Do I Need to Include Anything with my Application?There is no application required. Applicants must submit payment and show proof of an active contractors license at a L&I office to purchase the permits.Is the Decision on my Permit Dependent on Anything Besides the Information in my Application?Decision is dependent on payment and proof of an active contractors license.Where do I Submit my Application?There is no application submittal required. Applicants must show proof of an active contractors license at a L&I office.How Long is my Permit Valid?The Class B label is valid immediately upon validating the site information online and posting on the job site. All Class B work must be completed within fifteen days after the label is validated. Except that, in one- or two-family residential structures, a label is valid for ninety days after the label is validated, so long as work described on the label is performed by the purchaser.
